protecting differenet range of cells in excel?

We have a worksheet hanving different named ranges for various departments, wherein data has to be entered by each department only in their respective reange using passwords .

For this on the Tools menu, we select Allow users to edit ranges, then select range, enter range password and confirm O. This procedure we have done for each range.

Then in the allow users to edit tranges dialog box, we click Protect sheet. In the password to unprotect sheet box, we have entered the password and confirmed the same.

Now if we click on a particular cell/ range, it asks "enter password to change the cell". Here when we enter the password assigned to the concerned cell range, it gives the error message " passord is not correct, use correct capitalisation". This problem is for all the ranges defined.

Bus if we enter the password which we have given to protect the sheet, the entire sheet becomes available to users to change in all cells. We wish to restrict users to make changes only in the range of cells permitted to them.

Let us know where is the mistake or is there any better solution for this.

I’m so smart that I put a really long password that I THOUGHT was so easy that I would have remembered it, but awesome me didn’t (it’s a document with some bank information on it). So now, I need whatever password is in there to get into my bank account and I feel like I have literally tried everything. There has got a be a program out there that can either take it off or bypass it. Adobe PDF cannot be THAT secure that there isn’t some kind of way to get over it.

I believe that it’s the user password that I’m trying to get rid of, because I made the password myself. I usually put all my passwords to things in a special place, but I made this before I started doing that.

PLEASE, can someone teach me how to get this unlocked? I even tried getting it reset at the kiosk at school, but even the lady there couldn’t get me in so I wanted to try this before I went into the main branch for a stupid password. Yahoo! Answers always seems to have an answer :) !

I am trying to log on to my account, but I have forgotten my password and I can’t change it because It seems I have also forgotten my recovery question answer. I would change my password if ever I doubted that it was secure enough. I also worded my recovery question answer abnormally becasue I have a younger sister who know every aspect of my life. But because the account was not my main account, I did not log on frequently and forgot my pasword. What worse is all of the online sites I am on are made with that account and I have forgotten a few of the passwords for those as well because I experienced a temporary periods when my internet was down. As you can see my conflict arises with the ever infuriating conundrum of how to retrieve my pass and id for my various online site accounts, from an email account that is virtually unreachable. The various online accounts I hold dear for sentimental reasons, and no, the account i’m on now is not the one in question. Please contribute and help.
