I have an Excel spreadsheet that I need to lock the formatting of a range of cells, I know how to protect cells, the sheet, etc unless there is a step I am missing in this area I don’t believe that I can accomplish what I need with this function.
What I need to do is….
I have a range of cells (say its B:5 – H:52) this block of cells has a boarder around in and the data within the range has lighter boarders. When I delete a row of data the entire block shift up making the formatted cell range change to B:5 – H:51. I need to be able to delete said row of data BUT keep the formatting boarders intact for thoriginalal cell range.
Is this possible?

You can protected an Excel file with a(n) _____ to prevent it from being changed or even opened.
-digital signature
-PIN
-authentication stamp
-password
Ok so my answer was digital signature and it was wrong…so what is the answer..there is not option as to "lock the cells"…so what would it be? hmm? it doesnt tell you the correct answer by the way so if anyone truly knows that would be great

Hi,
I’ve created an excel document that numerous users will be editing, however I need for only certain users to be able to edit certain cells.
I currently am using the track changes method, however it appears that there are ways around this.
Does anybody know if there is a formula or a function I can use to only allow a user to edit a certain cell if the username = joe.bloggs for example? Excel can clearly look up the username as it does so in the "track changes" but its how do i use this information to protect my cells?
Many Thanks,
Mark

I recorded a macro in excel to unlock cells and then password protect it. I ran my macro it seems to work great. It unlocks cells so that text can be entered and then password protects it. But once I reopen the file and then go to tools to unprotect it… I am not being asked for the password I entered when I recorded the macro. It just unlocks it as if I did not enter any password. Does anyone know why it does not ask me for the password I entered when I recorded the Macro?

Ok I am trying to protect the sheet, from allowing people to delete what is there, But I want it to be able to still allow content to be added to cells that I have not created. for example if I put "name" I want the name part protected but I want them to be able to type their name.
Thank you that worked great. I will be sure to give you 10 pts best answer
